Stopping leash pulling without a fight

A gentle, consistent method that works for most dogs in two weeks.

Leash pulling is a habit, not a personality trait. Dogs pull because pulling works — it gets them where they want to go faster.

The rule is simple: a tight leash means we stop. The moment your dog turns to check in or releases tension, you move forward and praise. Carry small high-value treats for the first two weeks.

A front-clip harness gives you better leverage without choking. Avoid retractable leashes during training — they teach dogs that pulling extends their range.

Practice in low-distraction places first (your hallway, then your driveway) before progressing to busy streets. Most dogs improve dramatically within ten short sessions.
